Children are the easiest to teach about dental practices but the fastest to forget, and this is the main reason why most dentist find that the incidence of children having dental and periodontal disease or both at the same time is high in recent years. The reasons for this incidence happening is due to:
1. Lax Dental Practice – Parents may not like to be highlighted as the fault for their children’s dental problems. But because they are the ones that should be able to teach the kids how to brush, they should also be the ones to enforce the regimen. It is not in the teaching that they are lacking, it is the actual application and the following of the regimen.
Use a good dynamic to get your children to brush by themselves. Educate them about the perils of dental issues and periodontal disease so they will be even more willing to brush on their own. But make sure to supervise them as they could use too much toothpaste or use mouthwash improperly, as swallowing these products can make your child very ill.
2. Bad Diet – Young children who are at the age to pick and choose their own food usually don’t have the best diets. The introduction of sweets, chips and drinks are detrimental to your child’s health and are the reason why there have been a significant increase in the correlation between poor diet and poor dental and gum health.
Sugar and high carbohydrates are a good fodder for bacteria in the mouth. The more it is partook, the more that the food debris gets caught in the mouth and in between teeth and helps bacteria grow in population.
3. No Dentist Supervision – Yes, dentist appointments can cause a lot, but there are plenty reasons why you should shell out and invest in your child’s dental health rather than put the money away for something less important than that. Dental hygiene practices are best prescribed by professionals, and they can help you determine the weakness of your child’s oral health so they can give the right medicine or dental product to strengthen that.
Don’t let the time that you visit the dentist be the moment when you’re asking what the best periodontitis treatment for your child is, so the earlier that you start your child being able to get a professional to look into his or her dental issue, the better.
