First and foremost, the Church of God has its roots in the Christian Union in Tennessee and North Carolina border. It first started with eight men who wanted to dedicate their lives forging a close relationship with Jesus Christ. These Christians believed that the only way they can show devotion to Jesus Christ is through evangelism, spreading the Good News of the Lord and deeper understanding of the Bible. Their movement spread to different States and eventually, around the world. They have Church of God Lexington KY, Church of God Cleveland Tennessee, and even Church of God International, covering up to 150 countries around the world.
The Church of God Lexington KY is mainly Trinitarian. They also believe that the Bible holds all the essential doctrines which are important to their teachings. Furthermore, they also believe in the second coming of Christ who will reign for 1000 years. The first manifestation of Christ’s second coming is raising of the righteous dead. The members of the Church of God also follow certain guidelines which can maintain Moral Purity, Family Responsibility and Self Control. These guidelines include avoiding vices such as drinking, smoking and substance abuse. These guidelines also encourage families to maintain a Christian atmosphere within their household. Other than that, they have an obligation towards the community through various outreach programs to help the homeless and the persecuted.
However, many view the Church of God as too conventional and outdated. But on the contrary, the Church of God has redefined itself to fit the spiritual needs of their members of different age groups. For instance, they have ministries designed to reach out to Christian youths and singles to immerse them into a deeper understanding of the Word of God in a way where they can have fun, gain friends and grow together as Christians with good moral values. They also have ministries for children which provide a fun, yet safe environment where they can learn about the teachings of the Word of God.
