Did you know that it has been a proven fact that second hand smoke can
be as dangerous to
individuals breathing it into their lungs as smoking is to the person
who engages in the health harming habit? Most smokers don't really
think about it, but it is true! Adults have a choice whether or not to
be around those that are smoking and can remove themself from the
situation if needed. However, small children
may not have this option, especially if members of their family smoke
around them.The
EPA states that children who are around second hand smoke are are
likely to have very dangerous respiratory infections
such as pneumonia or bronchitis. Also, these children are more likely
to have ear infections. Parents who really car about their childs well
being ( and their own) should seriously consider quitting smoking. If
this is something that the family is not willing to do, then it is
important to at least smoke away from the children, such as outdoors
instead of inside. This could keep your child from obtaining a disease
that could affect them their whole life. Second
hand smoke can also lead create asthma in
children. While childrens lungs are growing and becoming mature, it is
important that they are not taking in harmful toxins such as smoke.
That can lead to life time illness in their lungs. Children with asthma
may suffer from
debilitating attacks that sometimes may require them to be sent to the
hospital. Most children who have asthma have medication that they take
to easy the symptoms. Another bad side effect of second hand smoke in
babies is SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrom, and middle ear
infections. So if you are a parent, or someone who is around small
children, think twice before picking up that cigarette. If you aren't
concerned about your health, at least be concerned with the health of
those around you. A great alternative to smoking is the electronic cigarette, this is not toxic and can help you to quit smoking! So what are you waiting for, stop smoking today!
